SAMP
The Student Alumni Mentoring Program (SAMP) is, as the name suggests, a mentoring program for students by alumni. CEMS students are paired together with CEMS alumni based on areas of interest and expertise and can then develop the mentorship on how they both see best fit. The idea of the mentorship is to actively develop the CEMS Alumni Network by advising current CEMS students on their professional career planning.

The SAMP program has been active before at CBS. However, last year there was not enough interest from either students or alumni, so unfortunately the program did not take place. We believe that the SAMP is very beneficial for all participants involved and have therefore been very keen on re-launching it this fall semester for all students and alumni at CBS. To better understand the demand for the program a preliminary email was sent out to see which students and alumni were interested and what specific industry or area they were attracted to. Once the feedback was received, the CEMS Club, together with the Alumni Association, paired up students and alumni based on area of expertise and interest.

The program was launched with a kick-off brunch where the students and alumni were able to meet for the first time. This year we have a total of eight students and eight alumni, from a varied educational background and professional expertise. After the brunch each pair decides themselves many times and in what way they want to interact during the program. We believe this is the easiest and most efficient way of setting up the SAMP.

Alumni who participate are given the opportunity to actively develop both the CEMS network as well as their professional network. They will increase their personal satisfaction by working together with a student assisting him/her on their future career path, as well as are able to share their experiences with other alumni mentors. In addition, alumni are able to develop their personal development and coaching skills in a real-life situation. For students, the SAMP brings several benefits. First of all they are given a personal mentor that can assist them in all their decision-making, career planning and give them insight into the working world. Students can increase their awareness on opportunities related to their interests and major as well as alternative career paths that are not directly related to their studies. Participating in the mentorship furthermore allows students to establish a professional network within the CEMS Alumni Community.

This is the first time the current CEMS Club Copenhagen board launches this program, we are naturally very excited and curious about the program’s success. As this is new for us, we are very glad to hear about your experiences and thoughts to see how we can improve the mentorship program. We hope that it will greatly benefit you all and for those of you who have not signed up yet, you will have an opportunity to participate during the spring semester.
